More about Budgetting
What I really like about You Need a Budget is the flexibility of the program. First off, it’s just a souped up Excel spreadsheet. Jesse Mecham, the designer, allows everything to be changed, so I was able to customize it. He also provides lots of information and help. Most importantly it provides me with a flexible budget. No more “robbing Peter to pay Paul.”
However, this program does not provide a Christian approach to finances. First and formeost, I believe that we need to acknowledge that none of our finances belong to us. They belong to God. He merely trusts us to use His finances wisely.
The best book I have ever read about dealing with God and His money is called Trust God for Your Finances by Jack Hartman of Lamplight Ministries. Mr Hartman diligently sought out every scripture having to do with monetary success and prosperity. This is NOT prosperity doctrine - just the straight goods on what God requires of us.
Our very fisrt Christan budget was created using Mike Coe’s materials at Financial Freedom. He also has a strong Christian approach and a free spreadsheet program that helped us get our finances straight.

You Need a Budget
I’m finished my budget for today and I love my new program - You Need a Budget for Excel.
It is easy to use, very flexible, the creator allows you to change code as necessary and it has cut the time required to do my budget by an estimated 2/3’s.
It’s definately worth the $20!
Check it out.
Office Day
Monday is my Office Day.
Today I will try to do the following:
- My Weekly Review (from Getting Things Done by David Allen)
- Work on the a daily schedule/routine/guideline
- The Budget
- Meal Planning - Firm up the master breakfast menu, start the lunch menu.
- Library requests with the children
That should be it for today. I want to time myself and see how long each item takes. That should help with scheduling.
