Sore and Tired

MrsPages on June 17th, 2008

Today we shoveled and raked and leveled 7 yards of soil.

The yard looks great.

The children need showers.

We can’t move.

  1. Any tips?
We have to do the same thing this summer too.

  2. Not yet…wait to see if our grass seed actually grows or not. So far we still have acres of mud, which I water faithfully for most of the day, and lots of weeds! Oh and a very muddy entry way.

  3. We have to shore up to our house, the ground all runs towards it. Thankfully, our weeping tiles have passed the test time and again.
Mr. Branches wants to know if you know anything about putting in window wells. Another of our projects.

  4. Hey Mrs Branches,

Last year we shored up around the house, although we didn’t need to do window wells. Our friend Mike has had to put them in at all his houses - not difficult, just labor intensive.

We ordered a special type of thick soil (MrPages will have to clarify - it sounded like tillings?) We added six inches up the side of our house to about six feet out from the house. We rolled it and lived with it for a year. We put wooden fence boards along the walkways to help try and control the mess.

This year we ordered the top soil, put that over all the lawn and mud spots and then seeded. Ideally it should all be done at once in the spring or late fall, but small projects are easier for us. (Or at least that’s the theory!)

Let us know when you need to do it and we’ll come and have a work day. It’s lots of fun, and of course you can never have too much mud to play in!
